Safe Canned Tuna & A Fun Recipe For Tuna Pickle Pretzels!
Canned tuna is not created equal. When you look at most of the popular brands found in the mass market, they actually contain vegetable broth (often gmo-soy broth)! Not to mention, the health of the fish and methods of catch are usually questionable. This month we’re featuring one of our favorite brands called Safe Catch. Here are some facts as to why we love this brand!
First, they catch the tuna.
Safe Catch tuna is traceable from catch to can and they only buy from captains whose fish come from managed and sustainable tuna stocks.
Then, they test each tuna.
Using proprietary technology, Safe Catch is able to test every single fish for its mercury content. If it doesn’t meet the purity standards they don’t buy it. It still may be a good tuna, but it’s not a Safe Catch tuna.
The limit for Safe Catch Elite Wild Tuna is ten times (10x) stricter than the FDA mercury action limit.
The limit for Safe Catch Wild Albacore Tuna is two and a half times (2.5x) stricter than the FDA mercury action limit.
A cut above.
Other canned tunas lose flavor and Omega 3s due to machine processing. Safe Catch is hand packed, pure, raw tuna steaks to retain maximum nutrients and then slow cooked to perfection!
Why do Safe Catch Tuna and Salmon say: Do Not Drain?
There is no added oil, water, fillers, preservatives, or GMO-Soy broth to the tuna or salmon products labeled “Do Not Drain”. When you open the can or pouch you will find a solid steak with naturally occurring fish oils and juices that are a natural source of healthy Omega-3s. It tastes better and is better for you! To get the benefit of these nutrients, just open the can or pouch of Safe Catch and pour everything into a bowl. Break up the meat with a fork, mix it up and let it reabsorb its natural oils. You can even break up the tuna or salmon in the pouch and eat it!
